Region D tournament should be Feb 19-24 @ Castlewood High School. Not sure about the byes or brackets.

Each district gets a bye at their host site and the following year.
Should be Cumberland and BDD with byes this year.
Next year it will be an entirely different ball game with no byes.

Last night, I also heard one of the principals talking about the tournament most likely going to Virginia High next year.

I bet it will be at Virginia High quite a bit after this year...
I've got the same feedback.
I hate to see the tournament go to Virginia High every year, but it looks like it is inevitable.

I still believe it needs to alternate every year. They do have nice facilities and all but like I've said before just because it might be the best facility in the future Region D doesnt mean it should be there every year. True, Clintwood, Clinchco have huge gyms but may not have as nice facilities as Virginia High does. But you have an environment there in those gyms that you cant find at a Virginia High. The crowd and students are right there on the court.....the gyms can get really loud and you find people up there with the best of hospitality to visiting teams and officials. I think it would be best to keep a Virginia High, Clintwood, Castlewood, Clinchco rotation going every year. Each region has a place to call its own and each gym is more than capable of handling the crowd.
Although it does help, money isnt everything in the world. You want tournament tested teams who go into different hostile environments and come out ready to battle the big boys in Richmond. Plus what we do is all for the kids too. You cant tell me that a group of guys heading to a Region D Tournament would not get pretty pumped about playing in front of a different crowd each and every year. I had a friend who played for Gate City the year that the Region D Tournament was at Clintwood. Gate City was going to play Twin Springs up there and he said that they barely made it to the girls game because of traffic being so heavy. They had to have a police escort that night to get to the gym. It is little things like this that make a team feel good about what they have done and what they could be getting ready to do. You cant say that Virginia High has better parking either. I've been there when there was a huge game at Virginia High and to get to the gym you have to walk just as far sometimes as you would if you were at a Clintwood or a Clinchco to get to the gym. But really.. if someone really wants to see a game.. trust me they arent really going to care how far they have to walk. If they are a true fan that is. Just my opinion though.
